Babies and Children

Many people find Homeopathic preparations ideal for babies and children and they are considered to be gentle and effective. Soft tablets which dissolve on the tongue may be used for babies whilst children are happy to suck the sucrose tablet used to dispense most remedies. Increasingly parents are concerned to avoid repeated doses of medicines such as anti-biotics and steroids: Homeopathic care offers an holistic alternative.

You may find it useful to keep the following remedies in stock at home.

Chamomilla - this remedy is used to help babies through the worst stage of teething, or for a baby who suffers from painful colic. Your child may be unusually irritable, hypersensitive and cross and nothing seems to please them! A baby will want to be carried and won't be put down, particularly in the evening. Try Chamomilla 30C for pain relief.  Sachets containing Chamomilla are widely available at health food stores and chemists, ask your pharmacist for advice.

Pulsatilla - a useful children's remedy: whenever a child is unusually clingy, whiny and has lots of discharges think of Pulsatilla i.e. common colds, conjunctivitis, ear-ache with yellow/green discharge.

Arnica - is the first aid remedy for shock, bumps and bruising. If your child is involved in a minor accident, a routine dose of Arnica may help them heal more quickly. Useful after surgery, dental work or for mum and baby after a difficult labour.

Give a minimum dose i.e. 3 tablets over 24 hours or one tablet every two hour for up to 6 doses if symptoms are more intense.  Also check with your Homeopath and GP.

See your Homeopath if your child suffers from chronic conditions for example eczema, asthma, digestive complaints, emotional or behavioural difficulties. Older children and teenagers may benefit from treatment for complaints such as acne, headaches, low energy, mood swings, menstrual disorders, difficulties sleeping etc.

Homeopathic treatment aims to boost the individual's ability to cope with illness and may also help a young person through life's hard times!

If you would like to discuss whether Homeopathy may be an appropriate treatment, please do get in touch.
